Private prophylaxis course

Giving Birth and Providing Support

Giving birth is a physically and emotionally life-changing experience. With preparation and practical tools, it’s easier to cope with the intensity.

As a support person, it’s also common to feel anxious about not being good enough or not knowing what to do to truly support and make things easier for the person giving birth.

In that case, it can be helpful to have concrete tools and the opportunity to practice together before the time comes.

A common misconception is that “prophylaxis” refers to a specific way of breathing, but the word actually means “preparation for something.”

Our course is a childbirth preparation class that draws on the best aspects of a variety of methods and techniques, based on our experience as doulas and what we know works.

The course will cover

  • The Physiology and Anatomy of Childbirth
  • Hormones and the Nervous System During Childbirth
  • How the body's natural pain relief system works
  • The Role, Tools, and Techniques of a Support Person
  • Massage techniques, pressure, and acupressure
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Natural and medical pain relief methods
  • Mental coping strategies
  • Birth Space - How We Create a Safe Environment and Atmosphere During Childbirth
  • Four Tools for Fearless Childbirth
  • Hypnobirthing
  • Positions and movements that create space in the pelvis
  • The basic exercises in Active Baby/Spinning Babies

Practical Information

We highly recommend a private prenatal class with a doula as part of your preparation for childbirth.

The advantage is that the course can be tailored to who you are as individuals and to your specific circumstances and preferences leading up to the birth.

There is also a greater opportunity to have the space to talk about your thoughts, concerns, or fears.

Since the course takes place in your home, you also have the opportunity to practice in that environment and with the items and furniture you have at home—where you often spend time during the latency phase.

Absolutely, the course qualifies for the wellness allowance, and you can use up to 1,000 SEK per person per session. So if there are two of you, you can each use 1,000 SEK.

We will send you a receipt after payment, which will indicate that the course qualifies for a wellness tax deduction.

Can I enroll in the course as a standalone course?

Yes, absolutely. You can take the course with a support person (such as a partner, family member, or friend) who will be with you during the birth.

You can also take the course on your own if you plan to give birth with the support of the hospital staff.

At what stage of pregnancy is it best to take the course?

There’s no such thing as too early or too late to take the class, but most people choose to take it between weeks 20 and 34 of pregnancy.

If you’re experiencing fear of childbirth, it might be a good idea to sign up for the class a little earlier, since many people find that their anxiety and fear decrease after taking the class.

Is it ever too late to sign up for the course?

No, it’s never too late to sign up if you haven’t given birth yet, as long as there’s space available.

We always do our best to schedule and hold the class as soon as possible so we can finish before labor begins.
